A practicing labor & delivery nurse expert — for standard-of-care opinions, testimony, and the record review behind them.
I'm Katie Pratte — a labor and delivery nurse, clinical nurse specialist, and legal nurse consultant in San Diego. For more than 12 years I've worked at the bedside in labor and delivery at Sharp Grossmont Hospital, including time as a Clinical Nurse Specialist developing the standards, protocols, and training that govern obstetric care.
Across 16 years in acute hospital settings — including four in the emergency department — I've learned to read a chart for what actually happened, and why. I'm double board-certified in obstetrics (RNC-OB) and electronic fetal monitoring (C-EFM), hold a Master of Science in Nursing, and practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
I know fetal monitor strips, Pitocin protocols, and emergency obstetric care from the inside — not from a textbook — and I bring that fluency to legal teams who need complex medical records interpreted clearly and accurately.
Focused on obstetric and perinatal cases, where the timing of care is everything — and easy to lose in the paperwork.
A page-by-page review distilled into a clean, dated timeline of events — so the story of care is obvious at a glance, not buried in the production.
How the care compares to the guidelines that governed it — ACOG, AWHONN, facility policy — tied directly to the record and the date it applied.
An early, honest read on whether the clinical facts support the claim — before you commit time and expert dollars to it.
Nursing standard-of-care opinions from a currently practicing L&D expert — written reports, deposition, and trial testimony, plaintiff or defense.
You send the file. I handle scanned PDFs, EFM strips, and disorganized productions.
